Twisted pair cable was introduced in 1998 by IBM company. It represents a simple wire which allows establishing a connection between a host or the client computer. Telephone wire is an example of a twisted pair cable. The twisted-pair cable’s maximum support is 100 Mbps speed. Generally Twisted pair cable use with Bus, star, or ring topology.

Twisted pair cable is the oldest and less expensive cable used for LAN. In this cable, two insulated copper is twisted around each other. Twisted pair cable also used for short or medium range telephone communication

Twisted pair cable can be run several km without amplifier but twisted pair cable use repeaters. Twisted pair cable can be defined by two different types.

Category 3 and 5:: Category 3 is insulated with simple plastic property and Category 5 is insulated with Teflon property.

Advantages of Twisted pair cable:

  1. It is less expensive
  2. It establishes one to one relation.
  3. It follows the Network standard.
  4. It can be extended very easily.

Disadvantages of twisted pair cable:

  1. It can be used in a limited geographical area.
  2. It specifies only one client or an administrator.
