It deals with making sure the data is valid. It is the process of checking the copy of data is equal to the original or not.
It is performed on the original copy. It is performed on copies of the original data.
It is a very fast process. It is a time-consuming process.
It is used to protect data from the mistakes made by the users. It is used to protect data from the problems that occur due to system faults.
It makes sure that the data is clean, correct, and meaningful. It ensures that all the copies of data are as good as the original.

Eg:

For verification: Much modern software has built-in verification functionality like disc burning software which performs verification at the end of the burning process. If the data on the burned disc is verified then you are fine. But if not, then you have to throw the disc and burn again.

For validation: A validation process for the telephone directory application should validate the input telephone numbers to make sure that they contain only numbers, plus/minus symbols, and brackets.
